Governors Unveil Plaque at Cloisters 1557

Repton's newest space has been formally marked as part of the school's history.

The Board of Governors unveiled a commemorative plaque at Cloisters 1557, the café and collaborative workspace beneath Pears School. The plaque recognises Lt Col John Hetherington, whose generous donation made the development possible.

The Governors gathered in the cloisters for a short ceremony, at which the plaque was unveiled by Mark Shires, Chairman of Governors, and the Headmaster, Mark Semmence. They were joined by many of those who have enjoyed the space since it opened earlier this year.

Set beneath the arches and looking out over the Garth and the Paddock, Cloisters 1557 has quickly found its place in the rhythm of the school day. Sixth Formers and staff use it to work and collaborate during free periods, while pupils from across the school drop in at break times and for events throughout the term. Outside term time, Cloisters 1557 opens its doors to the public, welcoming visitors and the local community.

Under arches that have stood for centuries, Lt Col Hetherington's gift ensures the cloisters are once again at the heart of school life.
